Dongle

The software starts in demo mode if no dongle is detected.

- a dongle is necessary to activate the software
- in demo mode no hardware output is possible
- dongles are available as USB, parallel port or the USC scanner card can act as dongle

If this window is displayed during the start of SAMLight, please check whether the dongle is plugged in.

USB connection to USC card

If you use the USC card as dongle, check the connection between the USC card and the USB port of your pc. Check the connection using the USC server in visible mode

If the latest message is not “Device OK!”, a USB connection problem might be the reason. In this case check the USB connection in following steps.

- check the USB cable
- change the USB cable
- take a USB cable, as short as possible.
- remove other USB devices from the USB ports of your PC

USC card

After every change of the system, check the status by pressing the button “Reconnect” in the “USC SERVER” window.
When using the USC card in self powered mode and in case the green LED is not blinking, check the external power supply.
The blinking green LED indicates a correct power supply and a missing server connection. It also blinks if the USC card is not detected by the operating system.
Please check whether the USC card is detected in the operating system, like left figure shows.
Normally the USC card is detected and installed when the card is connected for the first time.

Connection problems can also result from ground loops. To avoid these loops there is a solder jumper on the bottom side of the USC-1. If the jumper is closed (by default), the cable shield is connected to the USC-1 ground. Open the jumper to disconnect USC-1 ground and cable shield.
